Summer in Culebra

So it's not summer yet, only April. But already it's so hot. We haven't had much rain, and the grass is almost all brown. The leaves on the trees are getting droopy and yellow. We hear that over the summer, the entire hillside covered with trees will be brown. I gave up trying to grow vegetables. They can't stand up to the heat.

And the town is rationing water, shutting off the supply to certain areas at certain times. We have six big tanks, so we don't have to worry. When the city valves are open, we make sure our tanks are full.

One day there were even fires on the island. Now, the island isn't that big. If a fire really got going in this dead, dry grass, we might all be jumping in the ocean. I sure wasn't expecting all this when I came here.

  1. Oh my! Sure sounds like a perplexing situation. Pray that you get rain soon. The Universe may open up. Let's hope.
